Pattaya weather and Thailand

Pattaya weather

As mentioned on the other page about weather here in Pattaya city, most tourists only think of high season and low season when it comes to the Pattaya weather. So heres a slightly more informed description.

Thailand is in southeast Asia and covers roughly the same area as France. It is bordered with Cambodia and Laos on the east and Myanmar on the north and west.

Its coastline is on the gulf of Thailand which runs into the pacific ocean. The south of Thailand consists of the narrow Kra Isthmus, which divides the Pacific from the Indian ocean and joining the Malayan peninsula to the rest of southeast Asia.

Thailand is situated between 6° and 20°N, and in the far south it has an equatorial climate, the north and centre have a tropical monsoon climate. Chang mai and the north of Thailand is hilly and considered mountainous with land rising to over 1000m/3300ft, the east and centre of the country has gentle hills and slopes and is low lying.

The weather in Pattaya and Thailand does have plenty of rain, but certainly not excessive. And the rain mainly falls in the months May to October. This season has a southwest monsoon blowing from the Indian ocean which brings warm humid air, and plenty of clouds.

November to April sees very little rain, this is the northeast monsoon and the wind is coming overland from China, so the air is much drier. And the difference here in Pattaya is quite noticeable and towards the end of December can get quite cool in the evenings.

The south and the centre of the country has no great variation in temperature from month to month. However in the north, such places as Chang Mai, it is much cooler during this period

Many tourists find the weather in Pattaya during the wet season a bit oppressive, and this goes for all of Thailand not just here. This is due to the combination of high temperatures and the humidity.
