Pattaya bar girls and property speculation!

This is a very short tale of woe involving one of the Pattaya bar girls and an older guy. As I've said in all my tales of woe series so far I don't want to give any names or locations other than Pattaya. This is a first hand story related to me by the guy himself....

I was at my Thai girlfriends house in the village, which was 16km outside of the main town. I used to really enjoy staying at her home, it was peaceful and quiet, (once you had got used to the chickens) and the views of the mountains were superb.

It was just after lunch time when we decided to go into town and so off we went on the motorbike. When we arrive in town my girlfriend usually goes shopping and I go for a coffee at a popular farang meeting place, where she usually joins me later. We parked up the motorbike she went off shopping and I walked to the coffee shop.

I like to arrive at the coffee shop early so as to avoid meeting with most of the farangs, mainly because they only gossip about Pattaya bar girls and moan about their Thai Visa or some other crap.

Sure enough the place was empty except for an older guy who I had only seen a couple of times or so before. I had never spoken to the guy and wasn't sure of his nationality, its very rare I shall approach a stranger and introduce myself. Firstly you don't know if you speak the same language, and if you don't then honestly its hard work. Secondly, many guys including myself are careful about choosing their friends.

Anyway, this guy looked particularly depressed and unusually I asked if all was well, just in a casual sort of way. He lifted his head and said "not really". I thought for a moment, now do I leave it at that and leave him be, but no I wanted to help if I could, so I said "anything I can help with?" Not really he replied and went on to describe the situation.

What had happened was He had semi retired in Thailand, 3 months or so in his home country and then 3 months or so in Thailand. He had mainly stayed in Sin city and while enjoying the attractions in Pattaya he had met one of the Pattaya bar girls as so many men do.

He obviously had not been enlightened to the ways of young Thai girls and the reasons they go with older men.. And the reason is usually money or what money can buy. He first met this Pattaya bar girl about 18 months prior to me meeting him now.

He carried on to explain that he had decided to Retire in Thailand and that this young Thai girl made him very happy and had decided to build a house for them both to live in. Fair enough I thought, until I sort of understood that he did not understand that foreigners can not own land in Thailand, and that he had not taken measures to protect himself, regarding ownership laws in Thailand which you can do.

I never have seen the house but from his description it sounded very nice indeed, complete with a small swimming pool and all the mod cons, he had spent a reasonable amount of cash having it built.

He takes a trip back to his home country for a short while to tie up a few loose ends before moving here permanently. He arrives back in Thailand and makes his way back to the house. To discover he can't even open the front gate, as there is a new padlock on it. A Thai man eventually appears, making gestures for him to leave.

There was no sign of his Pattaya bar girl and I know he shall never see her again. He had been to the police, but they have seen it all before and were not really interested. However one kind officer did say, "her house, her land" And he was correct. There was nothing he could do.

Except maybe try and burn the thing down which I know has happened.

When it comes to Pattaya bar girls or indeed Thailand, I personally believe there is no right thing or wrong thing for you to do. Just as long as you are happy to do whatever. But always ask yourself, why and what if. As my great friend and mentor "JB" said to me you gotta keep a healthy amount of negativity and cinicism when dealing wih Pattaya bar girls.
