Medical tourism in Thailand
I have to say here that I'm no expert on the subject of medical tourism in Thailand, All I can say here is that I have a couple friends one of which came on what might be called a Dental tourism trip to Thailand. He actually had the work carried out here in Pattaya. After the cost of flight, accommodation and not forgetting the treatment, he still saved a substantial sum of money. And was very pleased with the results.
My other pal had the job done on the spur of the moment, definately not part of the medical tourism in Thailand boom. Basically he had the bags and lines around his eyes removed, Mmm, I thought. Anyway to be fair it turned out that good I'm considering the same for me! I think he only paid 28,000bt (I will check on that figure and update) I'm also considering laser sight correction (LASIK etc,). There's lots of places here that do that. Health care in the west is well known for being expensive, which is why people look overseas to find more affordable answers to what they are looking for. And believe me medical tourism in Thailand can be very cost effective, and what a place to recouperate. The medical profession in Thailand is probably one of the most advanced in S E Asia. The doctors taking specialist training abroad in Europe or America and are at least as well qualified as those doctors in the west. Large investments have been made both in terms of equipment and management. The hospitals and clinics that cater for medical tourism are indeed world class, most of which achieve ISO 9001.
As a country Thailand is a world leader in the medical tourism industry, and the hospitals and clinics don't just do cosmetic surgery. You can have anything from heart procedures, hip and joint replacement and recuperative operations after an injury. If I was considering medical tourism in Thailand I would probably be heading to Bangkok. There are a large number of hospitals all of which are used to medical tourists. And because there are many hospitals its easy to find a hospital and a doctor your'e happy with, and get a second opinion! Should you want one. Thailand cosmetic surgery Because the cost of surgery can sometimes be a fraction of that in the west, and quality levels being very high, cosmetic surgery is of course very popular. There are the usual suspects of breast enlargement or indeed reduction, tummy tucks and face lifts etc, I have also been told and read that Thailand is just about the world leader for gender reassignment surgery, which includes vaginoplasty and facial feminisation. Thailands Ladyboys are world famous after all. Thailand Dental tourism I have met guys from America that have made several dental trips to Thailand, simply because its such good value. They not only save a ton of cash on the treatment, but have a great holiday also, Great! The dental equipment used is easily level with the best in the world and the dentists are very well trained. Dental procedures include all the usual suspects of laser teeth whitening and bridges, dentures, and crowns. Thailand alternative medicine Alternative medicine has long been practised by the Thai's using both holistic methods and herbal medicines. Thailands wellness retreats, chiropractic treatments and yoga workshops are becoming more and more popular. Thailand health spas Both foreigners and Thai's make use of the many spas in the cities and resorts, indeed there are many resort hotels built around spa treatments. Steam baths, saunas and many types of massage are available. These type of resorts are very well tuned in to the foreign visitor, so you should not be dissapointed. OK whats the pros and cons then. Pros, Thailand is one of the worlds top tourist destinations, therefore the country is well used to foreign visitors. The hospitals and private clinics all can communicate well in English, particularly the ones that attract the health tourism business. Taking into account the cost of flight, accommodation etc, and the procedure itself the total cost can be a substantial saving against the cost in the west. Add the fact that Thailand is such a great location and its easy to see why medical tourism in Thailand will continue to be a favorite location. Cons, There are some doctors with shall we say dubious reputations, I would strongly advise you to shop around and do some thorough research and don't be afraid to ask questions. Do not fall into the trap of considering cost only, the most expensive is not always the best. Another important thing to consider is the Thailand weather there are very distinct seasons. Personally if I was having an operation that resulted in some type of heavy dressing or whatever, I would not like to be covered in bandages in the middle of the hot season. Thanks for looking and the best of luck.
