Jomtien is less crowded and has a better beach.
Yes jomtien and the beach are both far less crowded than pattaya, and if you are a family considering a trip here then this place makes an ideal location. If I was bringing my family this is where I would be staying..Why, Because it is still within easy travelling distance of all the pattaya attractions and if I do want to go there for the day its only a short baht bus ride away which at present is a mere 20Bt. The beach is straight and goes on for about 6km, new shops, hotels, condominium blocks and restaurants are being built fast. But it seems at the moment to be much more spread out than in Pattaya which means that Jomtien still feels much quieter and less frantic, even in the evenings.
Another reason this beach is far better than that in pattaya is mainly because its less crowded and with the odd exception its generally cleaner. If you go to the far southern end of the beach you can find some very quiet spots With bars and food stalls available on the road, with hardly a tourist in sight. I have had many great days on the beach hiring two deck chairs, eating lots of food and a few cold drinks etc; We always head towards the southern end of Jomtien beach where we have a great day for 300Bt! Which is one reason you will find Thai families here, many coming from Bangkok. At the Thappraya Road and Theppraset road junction there is now located a new airport bus service terminal, with buses running every hour from 0600 to 2000 the cost is 126Bt and considering these are modern air conditioned vehicles that's pretty good value. So if you have not arranged transfers you can now get straight to jomtien from Suvarnabhumi Airport. What is there to do? Water sports There is pretty much everything you can think of all along the beach. Jet skiing is probably about the first thing you will notice. There is also water skiing, parasailing and there's even a water sports school opposite soi 6 on the beach road. You can actually enjoy the sea at Jomtien as there is very little in the way of commercial boating such as ferries or fishing boats etc, unlike Pattaya beach where there's a good chance of being hit by something, usually an empty beer bottle floating past. Being a beach bum It is possible, and I know through experience that for a modest fee you can hire a deck chair or two underneath a large parosol. If like me you are not a sun worshipper, don't discount this activity especially if you are a single guy and have just found the love of your life! The deck chair operators will supply drinks and vast amounts of food and snacks and your new found Thai girlfriend will have a great day and so shall you. You can even get a Thai massage here on the beach and even the souvenir hawkers are not as pushy. Shopping in Jomtien To be honest.. forget it! there is not really anything here shopping center wise to give the credit card a good thrashing, so shopaholics have to travel up the road to Pattaya. There are however lots of internet shops, a couple of optician shops, book shops, dentists and of course the regulation tailors shops. All your daily essentials however can be purchased in the many convenience stores dotted around Jomtien. Beer bars and Go Go bars Along Thappraya Road which connects Pattaya and Jomtien there are of course some go go bars and beer bars. The main area for these is in a development called the Jomtien complex. You will also find many of the Beer bars at the northern end of the beach road and along the soi's running off beach road. You can go to these bars and meet girls if you wish, you can also play pool or you could just enjoy a beer. Compared to the city up the road its much less hassle and pressured. Close by family friendly places to visit. Pattaya Floating Market Covering an area of 100,000sqm, the market is separated into four sections – each represents and sells items from four major parts of Thailand (north, northeast, central and south). Pattaya Elephant Village Demonstrations and shows which include various training techniques, round up methods and the highlight, the "Glong Sabad Chai" with a war elephant. Nong Nooch Garden This place is great and is one of my favourite days out. Almost 2.5sq,km of landscaped parkland which can easily keep you there all day. There are also cultural shows and various demonstrations.
