Keep your health in Thailand,,Simple?

Keeping your health in Thailand is important so as to enjoy your vacation, there's nothing worse than being ill for a few days with something easily preventable.

First off lets get STD`s out of the way, always use a condom,, you will discover that most Pattaya girls will insist on them. If she does`nt it could mean she wants to give you something as a "gift" that she got from a previous foreigner!! Some bar girls will show you a certificate etc, etc, if you value your health in Thailand don't take one bit of notice, it ain't worth the paper its written on.

Water.. Whatever you do don't drink the stuff, at least not the tap water. When I check into a room I run the shower for a few minutes,, I do not know how long the room has been empty and this clears the water "maturing" in the pipes. I once got a nasty infection in a cut on my skin due the bacteria in the water.Thankfully this was a short visit to one of the many Thailand hospitals! Bottled water is for sale everywhere and is cheap, To keep a good supply in my room I initially buy two 5 litre bottles from the 7/11 store, when a bottle is empty I then re-fill it at one of the many water vending machines you shall see on the streets.

Another great way to keep your health in Thailand is eating the fresh fruit and vegetables. I really do enjoy Thai food and when I first came I noticed the fruits tasted what they should taste like, same with vegetables. Unlike a lot of supermarket intensively grown produce. Which brings me on to street food, thats the stuff you will see on mobile stalls being pushed around. If you are here for a 2 week vacation my advice is leave it alone. Health and safety on these stalls is virtually none existent, and as I said above 2 or 3 days of illness is easily preventable. After having said that there are some good ones and if you see other foreigners flocking your probably OK.

Pictured to the left is the carrefour store on Central Pattaya road, they have a large dining hall with an enourmous choice of authentic Thai food and European food.

Below is the food hall on Central Pattaya road, adjacent to soi 12. Here you will get 100% genuine Thai food and some stalls even have a menu written in English, the cleanliness is not too bad so go for it.

Another Thailand danger is the sun, particularly for light skinned fair haired people I wont go on too much as you have probably heard it before. But do take care the sun is very strong here, high protection sun cream is easily available, and I often wear a tee-shirt if I`m swimming.

Lastly, and unfortunately beer drinking is not favourable for good health in Thailand. Remember if you are thirsty, drinking a beer can make you worse, as alcohol dehydrates the body especially if consumed in large quantities!
