Gay Pattaya
Yes Pattaya is indeed gay friendly having a number of areas where you can enjoy an evening out, or indeed spend your whole time in the area as you will have absolutely no problem finding a gay hotel in Pattaya.
Although I'm writing this article from a straight guy's perspective I do have a couple of gay friends who have taken me for a few beers around Sunee Plaza I was made welcome at these bars just as any of the Beer bars in Pattaya, Which I suppose is testament of Pattaya's mixing pot of cultures and orientations etc; I don't want to go into the whole cultural thing here, but homosexuality and Ladyboys (Katoey) are just another part of society. And I have often heard the term, the third gender. So if you are gay, do not be concerned if you have never been to Pattaya before, you will have a great time.
Much of the info on this site concerns bar girls and how to go about things in what are sometimes referred to as girly bars, girl bars and go go bars. I am extremely well informed that if you use the word boy and not girl then all things remain equal. So just where are these boys and boy bars, or indeed the boys a go go bars. The main gay Pattaya area is Sunee Plaza which has many gay hotels,bars and restaurants etc; Then there is Jomtien which has a great beach, However I'm gonna start with Boyztown. Because if you have never been here before this place is more than likely the first place you will visit.
Gay Pattaya, Boyztown
This area is located towards Walking street at the southern end of beach road. It is actually Pattayaland Soi 3,(street 3) but generally Pattayaland Soi 1, 2 and 3 are all reffered to as Boyztown. You shall find that Soi's 1 and 2 are a fairly well mixed bunch of both boy bars and girl bars Oh, and not forgetting the ladyboys. So as you stroll around this area in the evening you could be approached by just about any orientation! I would suggest taking a look round the place in the daytime, this way when it comes to the evening and you've had a drink or 6 you wont get too lost. Although these Soi's run between Beach road and second road I found that the simplest way to get to Boyztown is directly off second road, As Boyztown is a dog leg shaped Soi and does not run directly off Beach rd, again its the southern end towards walking street but before you get to the big junction with south road.
Gay Pattaya, Jomtien complex
If you are in Pattaya you will need to take a baht bus to get here. Depending on the time of day the journey can be unpleasant due to the traffic, usually late afternoon. If you catch one of the regular Baht buses the fare is only 20bt. I have to say that I've had some very good afternoons on the beach at Jomtien. For one thing its a lot quieter than Pattaya, when I say quieter I dont mean its a ghost town, its just not so in your face! Its great to get a chair on the beach, and the vendors will provide everything you need without you having to move. Simply ask for a menu and you can order food, coffee and cold drinks, you can even get yourself a massage if you wish. Jomtien complex is just by the beach and the easiest way to find it is to stand facing the sea and it is to your right, it is quite a large gay beach area so you should'nt have any probs, its also well known so you can always ask.
