Chicken Ranch BrothelsThe very first time I heard of Chicken ranch brothels I was in Las Vegas and being curious I did look into it. From what I found out the most well known of these is quite a large and luxurious place about 100 km out of the city, to be honest I never actually experienced the place. I shall be doing a price comparison further down this page and I think you shall be surprised if not startled!! And needless to say there was not a mention of any young Thai girls!
When I first heard the term used in Pattaya I thought I need to look into this further. That was about 5 years ago and if you want the real deal you need to be well away from Pattaya or any tourist destination for that matter. And I do mean well away, somewhere in the provinces and rural. There are these ranch type places close to Pattaya but I'm sorry to say they are nothing like what I have experienced.  When you do find yourself in rural Thailand and ask a local where one of the nearest chicken ranch brothels are, that person wouldn't have a clue as to what you mean. Because its a term only used by westerners (farangs). The locals would know them as karaoke bars. Just to clarify the difference, you will find many karaoke bars in most if not all towns. However the "karaoke bars" you want are always out of town and generally constructed of bamboo with a thatched roof. And yes there will be chickens roaming around and the places look like farm ranches. My experience of a chicken ranch brothel is this, I moved to a rural location almost two years ago and I am aware of these places but up until recently not actually visited one. A friend warned me to be careful as he had been to one and was "asked" to leave. Reason being they are without doubt 100% Thai and not all Thai men want the company of a strange farang taking part in what is after all a part of Thailand culture
I go checking out the places on the edge of town and I narrow it down to two, so the following evening I go to the first of these and it looks a little busy. So I backtracked to my second choice pictured above, I could hear music but couldn't see if it is busy. I took a deep breath and headed for the entrance, in I go. The place is dimly lit to say the least and the floor is just dirt, there isn't a bar area as such except for a glass fronted refridgerater and just the usual moulded concrete benches and tables, being only a small place so just a few of these. There is a group of six or seven men sitting around a table in front of the karaoke machine. As soon as I walk in I notice them looking at me as if to say what the hell is he doing in here. One of them approached me and asked what I wanted, fortunately I understood and I can speak enough Thai, so I order a bottle of beer which was brought to my table with a glass of ice. He returned to his table and they all raised their glasses to me, a good sign. Later they ask me what music I like and actually made me feel quite welcome.  Here I am sitting alone in this chicken ranch brothel watching a bunch of Thai guy's having a good time and slowly they are getting drunk, but we're all enjoying ourselves. Some 45 minutes have passed and I'm thinking where's the girls? This is where its different to Pattaya or Bangkok where the beer bars are full of mainly young Thai Girls. In a small rural town there just isn't enough bar girls to have each place full of them, except in the busiest of places which is usually just the one bar. What I have since found out is that when a potential "client or clients" show up at one of these ranches then a phone call is made and very soon a girl or two will appear. Needless to say I have a friend for the night. Cost comparisons between chicken ranch brothels in Thailand and Las Vegas. I am very well informed that for 30 minutes in a room with a woman in Vegas will cost $350 which is roughly 10500Bt and that does not include drinks etc, and I dread to think of the cost of them! The usual cost of a beer in my regular bar here is 45Bt at the ranch it is 70Bt. So 6 beers between me and my friend some good food and I give her 500Bt.... Not 30 minutes later but in the morning!
