I have met guys who have imported their car from their own country, and beleive me by the time they have paid the (astronomical) import tax and the hassle involved it just ain't worth it. and do remember in the Kingdom of Thailand they drive on the left
If you are staying for a number of months it may be more economical to rent a car in Thailand. If you are a non resident in the Kingdom of Thailand you cannot legally own a car in Thailand. Personally If I was going to buy a car in Thailand I would buy one quite a distance from Pattaya, as prices there do seem to be rather higher than other towns I have visited.
